Michael Gulino, MS Ed, MA

Founder & CEO

Mike is a retired school administrator with over 40 years’ experience in the field of health education and promotion. His two master’s degrees reflect his passion for health promotion and prevention in young people. Mike earned his master of science degree in Education (MS Ed) specializing in health, education and promotion from Lehman College in Bronx, New York. Additionally, he obtained his master of arts (MA) in Physical Education and Applied Physiology from Columbia University Teacher’s College in New York, New York.

As a postgraduate, Mike refined his practical skills in health leadership through a fellowship with the American Cancer Society’s National School Health Coordinator Leadership Institute and a fellowship with the New York State Academy for Teaching & Learning.

A 40-year veteran of the New York State school system, Mike has enjoyed a rewarding career as health teacher, coach, school administrator, and college professor. Beginning his career as a health education teacher, Mike’s role expanded over the years, becoming the Director of Health, Physical Education, Health Services & Athletics for the Byram Hills School District. During his tenure as Director, Mike managed over 130 school faculty and staff members, coordinated large school events, prepared faculty/staff training manuals and parent/student handbooks, implemented athletic facility plans, administered programs and ensured faculty/staff adherence to various district and school-wide regulations. Additionally, Mike conducted curriculum writing workshops and served as chair of the Emergency Response Team, Athletic Advisory Council and Health Advisory Council.

In his work with 3D, Mike has consulted on many event safety and security management projects, assessing schools’ level of natural and human risks along with technological hazards. He has trained event staff, developed emergency action plans for large events, venues and worked closely with school safety teams.

Since retirement, Mike has been called upon to use his expertise to mentor new athletic administrators, serve as the Interim Director of Athletics and Interim Principal for local school districts familiar with his work. Mike currently serves as a New York State Coordinator for their Action for Health Kids program and adjunct health lecturer for his alma mater, Lehman College in Bronx, New York. Additionally, he is a national teaching faculty member of the National Interscholastic Athletic Administers Association where he creates and leads instructor courses on event management, safety and security.

Steve Young, MS Phys Ed, CMAA

Steve Young

Director of Leadership Development

Steve serves as the Director of Leadership Development for 3D Leadership Consultants. With over 30 years’ experience as Athletics Director in different settings, Steve brings to the team first-hand knowledge of evidence-based practices in action. Steve received his master of science in Physical Education (MS Phys Ed) specializing in Athletic Administration from Western Illinois University in Macomb, Illinois.

Through the course of his career, Steve has authored and co-authored many athletics articles and delivered numerous athletics conference presentations. Two of his most recent presentations have been “Time Saving Techniques for the Athletic Administrator” at NIAAA’s National Conference in December 2017 and “The Mental Health of the Student-Athlete”, presented at the NYS Athletic Administrators Association Conference in March 2016.

Steve has also recently been a panelist at NYU Sports and Society’s Conference in April 2018 and for NYU Youth Sports Initiative at the Chaplin School in April 2017. Over the years, Steve has actively served a variety of roles such as member, coordinator, chair, director and president for the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association, New York State Athletic Administrators Association and New York State Public High School Athletic Association’s Section One.

In addition to his role with 3D, Steve is the Director of Athletics for the City School District of New Rochelle and is an Adjunct Instructor for International Sports Governance at Tisch Institute for Sports Management, Media, and Business at New York University, New York, New York.

Sue Adams, MSN, FNP, APRN – BC

Sue Adams

Director of Health Services

Sue is the Director of Health Services for 3D Leadership Consultants. She plays an important role to both clients and the 3D team. Sue earned her master’s degree in Nursing (MSN) with a specialty as a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) from Pace University at Lienhard School of Nursing in Pleasantville, New York (NY). In addition to her role with 3D Consultants, Sue works as Lead Nurse Practitioner at Elizabeth Seton Pediatric Center in Yankers, NY and as a Pediatric Clinical Instructor, Adjunct Faculty at Pace University in Pleasantville, NY.

Prior to her work at Elizabeth Seton Pediatric Center, Sue worked for five years as the NP for the City School District of New Rochelle in New York. During her time in New Rochelle, Sue reported to the Medical Director in the delivery of health care services to approximately 15,000 students in New Rochelle’s public and private schools. Her duties included student physical assessments, pre-participation examinations for inter-scholastic sports, consultations for students with special medical needs and the delivery of health education programs. It was during this time she became aware of student health needs and familiar with the New York City School district health rules and regulations.

Sue oversees the creation of appropriate and effective Individual Health Plans (IHP) for students addressing issues such as drug rehabilitations, infectious disease and cancer treatment. IHPs are key in ensuring continuity of care at school and home.  These coordinated care plan open up communication among all individuals involved in the child’s environment including the treating physician, school physician, school nurse (if applicable), parents, administrator and the coaches. For those schools that may not have the budget for a nurse on staff, having quick access to a qualified, vetted NP with a psychiatric background on the 3D team has proven invaluable.
